4.2.9 VCA - Voltage Controlled Amplifier
A
word about Voltage Controlled Amplification:
The volume of the audio signal, which passes through
the VCA envelope, is contoured by the envelope
controls. Each time a key is pressed, the envelope
or “contour” generator attached to the amplifier is
actuated, and sends a control signal to the amplifier.
Like the filter envelope control signal, the VCA envelope control signal is
composed of the same four segments: initial rise (attack), decay, sustain
level, and release time; the volume of the note is shaped according to the
settings of these envelope controls, e.g., an amplifier is used to control the
loudness of the sound over a period of time so as to emulate the natural
amplitude shape and scope of a “real” instrument––wait a minute, an
analog synthesizer
is
a “real” instrument!
The
OVERDRIVE
switch sets the level of overdrive or distortion.
I
is 0;
II
is 11.
The
VOLUME
knob sets the master volume of the synthesizer.
4.2.10 Master Tune
Sets the master tuning for the unit; the swing is +5 to -5.
4.2.11 Bend
Sets the pitch bend value for the pitch bend controller––pitch bend
being the default setting. [see 4.2.12 for 2.0 OS functionality]
