Installation Notes for BSN Kits 4A/5A
SCOPE
This document (next 6 pages) describes how to wire the Blue Sky Network C1000A modem unit when a
cabin unit is not installed in the aircraft. This is relevant for Blue Sky Network Kits 4A and 5A.
DIGITAL HANDSET
Users can manage and program a C1000A Modem by connecting the Motorola digital handset provided
by Blue Sky Network. Although not required for C1000A functionality, Blue Sky Network recommends
constructing a wire harness for this digital handset even if it is not being used on a regular basis. The
digital handset provides user preferences/settings, important control functions such as network
registration status; satellite signal strength, passwords, and SIM card management (see Figure 1). Since
the kits 4A and 5A do not come equipped with the C1000A Cabin Unit, a special cable should be
assembled in order to use the digital handset.

For details on how to operate
the digital handset, see “9520 Mobile Telephone User’s Guide”.
INSTALLATION OPTIONS AND DIAGRAMS
Option 1
Blue Sky Network recommends the installation described in this section, since it provides more
control of network and system status, while having the analog interface operating normally.
By having the digital handset accessible from inside the aircraft, the user can check signal
strength and perform other tasks (security settings, SMS, and other) only available from the digital
handset.
