APPENDIX A: Test Standards
The SCAN-LAN Vt tests cabling to the performance required by the cable
test standard chosen. The test limits for each specification standard are
listed in the tables in this appendix.
SCAN-LAN Vt cable test standards may be modified to add/remove cable
tests (for example, cable resistance) and modify which pairs are tested.
A.1 Installed Link Test Configurations
Cabling-system performance requirements have been established by the
industry association EIA/TIA in Technical Systems Bulletin 67. TSB-67 also
defines two installed cabling test configurations, the Channel and the Basic
Link.
The primary difference between the Channel and the Basic Link
configurations is that the Channel includes the user’s patch cords and
equipment cords used to connect to the workstation (at the office end) and
to the communications distribution equipment/hub (at the wiring closet).
The Basic Link excludes the user’s patch cords and equipment cords.
A.2 Channel Testing
You use the Channel configuration when the need arises to diagnose system
problems in existing networks.
The figure on the next page illustrates a typical test setup using two SCAN-
LAN Vt to test a Channel.
