4. The webbing must be
doubled back through the
buckle as shown (figure 9).
5. Connect the clip-in loops
(j) with a locking carabiner as
shown (figure 7).
TYING IN
♦
Correctly attach the rope to your Type C sit harness as shown in figure 5.
♦
Clip the rope connected to your sit harness through the locking carabiner
between the chest harness clip-in loops (j) as shown in figure 7. Be certain
the carabiner is fully locked.
♦
To ensure the chest and sit-harness system fit you correctly and are
properly adjusted, carefully hang in it BEFORE you go climbing.
♦
Failure to attach the rope properly to both harnesses can result in injury
or death.
♦
Double-check your knot and buckles—
ALWAYS!
RAPPELLING
♦
Rappel devices should be attached to the tie-in loop of your Type C sit
harness with a locking carabiner as shown in figure 6.
♦
Clip the rappel rope to the Vario Chest Harness using the chest harness
locking carabiner shown in figure 7. To achieve a comfortable sitting angle
while rappelling it may be necessary to add a second carabiner or a sling
and carabiner between the rope and the chest harness locking carabiner.
♦
Double-check your knot and buckles—
ALWAYS!
♦
In a rescue situation we recommend clipping the rescue locking carabiner
directly into the sit-harness tie-in loop (a) or belay loop. Clip the locking
carabiner between the chest harness clip-in loops to the rescue rope at the
appropriate height. A Black Diamond harness tie-in loop can withstand 15
kN (3350 lbf) of force.
WARNING
♦
In climbing and mountaineering there is no substitute for experience. If
you lack experience, climb and use harnesses only under the guidance of a
knowledgeable climber.
