BELAYING AND RAPPELLING

Attach belay and rappel devices to the tie-in loop
(figure 6) with a locking carabiner as shown.

Note: In a rescue situation we recommend
clipping the locking rescue carabiner directly to the
tie-in loop (a).

A Black Diamond harness tie-in loop can
withstand 15 kN (3350 lbf) of force.
VARIO CHEST HARNESS
The Vario Chest Harness can help keep top-
heavy people and people wearing a heavy
pack upright when climbing and rappelling,
and it can also help keep an unconscious
climber upright. Always use the Vario Chest
Harness in conjunction with a Type C sit
harness. It MUST NOT be worn alone.
The Vario Chest Harness is a Type D harness
according to the CEN standard EN 12277.
PUTTING ON THE VARIO CHEST
HARNESS
1. Put on the chest harness as shown, with
the clip-in loops (j) located at chest height (figure 7).
2. Adjust the buckles (h) so the harness is snug and
comfortable.
3. At least 8 cm (3 in) of webbing tail must extend
from each buckle (h) after it has been threaded
correctly (figure 8).
