Baud Rate
You can set the baud rate for serial communication across the extender system at 19200, 9600
(the default) or 1200 baud. All Local Units are supplied to accept a baud rate of either 9600 or
19200. No configuration of the Local Unit is required unless you want to operate at 1200
baud (see below).
Changing the Baud Rate to 19200/9600
All Remote Units are supplied with the baud rate preset at 9600. Use this procedure if you
want to change the baud rate to 19200, or reset it to 9600 after operating at another setting.
1.
Locate the Baud Rate jumper block in the
Remote Unit
.
2.
Set the jumper to the required setting as shown in Figure 19.
3.
If the extender system has been operating at 1200, locate the Baud Rate jumper block in
the Local Unit and remove the jumper as shown in Figure 20.

Changing the Baud Rate to 1200
If you want to use the serial extension for a mouse device such as an industrial trackball you
may want to change the baud rate to 1200. To do this:
1.
Locate the Baud Rate jumper block in the
Local Unit
.
2.
Place the jumper over the posts as shown in Figure 20.
3.
Set the hardware flow control jumpers in both Local and Remote Units to
RTS/CTS
Flow Control Across CAT5 Link
as described on the next page. This mode will support
most, but not all, serial mouse and trackball devices.
