Nominal Velocity of Propagation (NVP)
— The
speed of signal propagation through a cable,
expressed as a percentage of the speed of light
in a vacuum.
Open
— A break in the continuity of a circuit,
preventing signal transmission.
Packet
— A group of bits in a defined format,
containing a data message that is sent over a
network.
Plenum Cable
— Cable that has been certified for
installation in air ducts and open spaces over
suspended ceilings without conduit. Plenum cable
is fire-resistant and does not emit toxic fumes when
burned.
Reversed Pair
— A wiring error in twisted-pair
cabling where the pins on a pair are reversed
between connectors on each end of the cable.
