RS-232 Serial Interface
The Bird 4421A’s RS-232 interface feature is provided to allow remote measurement control. The RS-232 interface
uses a standard 9-pin connector. The commands available for this interface are provided in Chapter 5, 4421A
SCPI Commands on page 18 .
Serial Port Setup
The Serial option on the menu is used to access the serial port settings menu, see Figure 10 .
The Serial Port Settings Menu is used to define serial connection settings.
See "4421A SCPI Commands" on page 18 for details on serial commands.

Baud Rate
The Baud rate may be set to one of the following options:

2400
4800
9600

Data Bits
(word length)
Select either 7 or 8 bit data.

Stop Bits Select 1 or 2 stop bits sent at the end of every character.

Parity
Options are:
NONE - no parity bit is sent.
EVEN - parity bit is set so the number of “logical ones” is even.
ODD - parity bit is set so the number of “logical ones” is odd.
