Database Implications
The Microsoft SQL Server has a scratch database that it uses to manage queries,
temporary tables, and temporary data of any type. This scratch database is named
tempdb.
By default, the Gateway Routing Manager database is 20 MB when it is installed.
The size of tempdb must be at least 25 percent of the size of the Gateway Routing
Manager database.
To ensure this ratio, the Voice Services installation program expands the size of
the tempdb database accordingly by creating the tempdb2 data file when it installs
the Gateway Routing Manager. If the original 20 MB CS database is expanded, an
administrator must also expand tempdb to maintain the 25 percent ratio.
For more information about tempdb, refer to the documentation provided with
SQL Server.
Server Installation
After the Gateway Routing Manager (CS) computer system is properly set up and
configured, proceed with the installation process.
1.
Connect the hardware key to the parallel port of the computer. Refer to
Installing the Hardware Key
for complete instructions.
2.
Complete the steps in
Starting the Server Installation Program
.
The
Select Destination Directory Dialog Box
opens

.
Caution:
The process that expands the size of tempdb is not reversible. Also,
tempdb is a shared workspace used by all of the databases on the SQL Server.
Removing the NetSpeak directory tree from a system also deletes the tempdb2
data file, destroys the SQL Server capability to execute, and requires
re-installing the SQL Server for affected databases.
It is best to expand tempdb by using data files not residing in the NetSpeak
directory. This helps to make re-installation of Voice Services products more
convenient and require less effort.
