TYPE OF MALFUNCTION
POSSIBLE CAUSE
SOLUTION
Noisy burner pump
1) Fuel oil too viscous in the tank
2) Pipe diameter too small
3) Air infiltration in the pipes
4) Dirty roughing filter
5) Excessive distance between the tank and the
burner or many accidental leakages (curves,
elbows, choking, etc.)
6) Deteriorated flexible hoses
7) Fuel oil too viscous in some stretch of the
intake pipe
1) Pre-heat it in the tank or replace it with a less
dense type
2) Replace according to relevant instructions
3) Check and eliminate such infiltrations
4) Remove it and clean it
5) Rectify the entire length of the intake pipe and
shorten the distance
6) Replace them
7) Insulate the entire piping correctly
Fuel oil heats up too slowly or
does not heat up
1) Line voltage too low
2) One or more heating elements blown
3) Electrical connections
4) Total power of heating elements lower than the
required value based on the nozzle flow rate
1) Contact your energy provider
2) Replace it
3) Check
4) Decrease the flow rate in line with the heat
requirements of the system
Burner does not start when the
minimum pre-heating tempera-
ture for the fuel oil is reached
1) Thermostats (boiler or room) or pressure
switches are open
2) Photocell short-circuit
1) Raise their settings, or wait until pressure or
temperature values naturally decrease to
close them
2) Replace it
Burner does not start
1) No current, either main switch is open, or meter
circuit breaker open or mains failure
2) Thermostat line is not made according to the
diagram, or a thermostat is open
3) Breakdown inside the appliance
1) Close switches or wait until power returns
2) Check connections and thermostats
3) Replace it
Poor flame, with sparks
1) Fuel oil too cold
2) Atomization pressure too low
3) Too much combustion air
4) Dirty or worn nozzle
5) Water in the fuel
1) Increase temperature using the pre-heater
control thermostat
2) Reset at proper value
3) Reduce the amount of combustion air
4) Clean or replace it
5) Drain it from the pre-heating tank and roughing
filter through the dedicated plugs. If necessary,
drain it also from the tank using a suitable
pump. (never use the burner pump for this job)
Poorly shaped flame with
smoke and soot
1) Not enough combustion air
2) Dirty or worn nozzle
3) Combustion chamber too small or of unsuit-
able shape
4) Nozzle capacity too low with respect to combus-
tion chamber volume
5) Fuel oil temperature too low
6) Unsuitable or excessive refractory lining
7) Clogged chimney or boiler ducts
8) Atomization pressure low
1) Increase the amount of combustion air
2) Clean or replace it
3) Change the shape or decrease the capacity
of the nozzle in function of the combustion
chamber, or replace the boiler
4) Replace the nozzle, increasing its capacity
5) Increase it
6) Modify or decrease, in accordance with boiler
manufacturer instructions
7) Clean them
8) Raise pressure to the prescribed value
