INSTRUCTIONS FOR DETERMINING THE CAUSE LEADING TO IRREGULARITIES
IN THE OPERATION OF LIGHT OIL BURNERS, AND THEIR ELIMINATION
TYPE OF MALFUNCTION
POSSIBLE CAUSE
SOLUTION
The equipment shuts down with
flame presence. (Red light on) The
fault is limited to the flame control
device.
1) Photocell broken or dirty with smoke
2) Insufficient draught
3) Photocell circuit interrupted
4) Dirty disk or head
1) Clean or replace it
2) Check all the smoke ducts in the boiler and in
the chimney
3) Replace the equipment
4) Clean them
The burner goes to shut down
spraying fuel but without flame
presence. (Red light on).
The fault is limited to the ignition
device, providing the fuel is in good
condition (not polluted with water or
anything else) sufficiently heated
in case of fuel oil (naphtha) and
sufficiently atomized.
1) Ignition circuit interrupted
2) The ignition transformer leads discharge to
earth
3) The ignition transformer leads are not properly
connected
4) Ignition transformer
interrupted
5) The electrode tips are not at the correct
distance
6) Electrodes discharge to earth because they
are dirty or their insulation is cracked; check
also under the insulator clamps
1) Check entire circuit
2) Replace them
3) Tighten them
4) Replace it
5) Re-set them in the required position
6) Clean them or, if necessary, replace them
The burner goes to shut down
spraying fuel but without flame
presence (red light on).
1) Pump pressure is not normal
2) Water in the fuel
3) Insufficient pre-heating of the fuel oil
4) Too much combustion air
5) Air passage between disk and head too closed
6) Nozzle worn out or dirty
1) Re-set it
2) Drain it from the pre-heating tank and
roughing filter through the dedicated plugs. If
necessary, drain it also from the tank using a
suitable pump. (Never use the burner pump
for this job).
3) Increase it
4) Reduce the amount of combustion air
5) Correct the position of the combustion head
regulating device
6) Clean or replace it
The burner goes to shut down
without spraying fuel (red light on).
1) One phase missing
2) Electric motor inefficient
3) Fuel oil not reaching the pump
4) No fuel oil in the tank
5) Gate valve on the intake pipe is closed
6) Nozzle clogged
7) Motor (three-phase) rotates in opposite
direction to that indicated by the arrow
8) Foot valve leaks or is jammed
9) Defective pump
10) Build-up of steam or gas in the pre-heater
delaying its filling (in this case the pressure
gauge will slowly reach the set operating
pressure, too late with respect to the
maximum time allowed by the programmer)
11) Pre-heater tank filter clogged
12) Inefficient electrovalve
13) The valve of the atomizing unit does not open
14) Voltage too low
1) Check the supply line
2) Repair it or replace it
3) Check the intake pipe
4) Fill it up
5) Open it
6) Remove it and clean it thoroughly
7) Invert a phase in the supply switch
8) Remove it and clean it
9) Replace it
10) Loosen by a few turns the pre-heater tank
plugs and drain any water build-up. If fuel
comes out instead of water, probably the
gases built up inside the pre-heater are
originated by fuel evaporation. Therefore,
lower the temperature of the regulating
thermostat below 100°C, and check the
inclination of the tank as described in chapter
"Burner connection to the boiler"pagina 9.
11) Remove it and clean it
12) Check and, if necessary, replace it
13) After checking that the fuel pressure is correct,
replace the atomizing unit
14) Contact your energy provider
