3.2
Function
The BML is a magnetically coded, non-contact, absolute
position measuring system consisting of a sensor head
and magnetic tape. The sensor head and magnetic tape
are mounted on the machine. The magnetic tape contains
alternating north and south poles.
The sensors in the sensor head measure the magnetic
alternating field. Moving without any contact over the
magnetic tape, they sense the magnetic periods, allowing
the controller to read out the travel range via the interfaces
(SSI/BiSS) or count via 1 V

.
The entire function scope can only be achieved
with the BAE PD-ML-010-02 (Configuration
Tool incl. programming adapter; see
accessories). With the Configuration Tool, the
BML-S1H can be configured quickly and simply
on a PC.
The most important features include:
– Display of the position and the error state
– Setting the null point/setting the offset
– Calibration of the measuring system to
compensate for assembly tolerances

Measuring range can be extended while, however, impairing the non-linearity in the end range (see Fig. 3-2 and Fig. 3-3). An extension of the measuring
range by 14 mm increases the non-linearity in the end range to ±20 µm.
