AXIS OfficeBasic USB User’s Manual
Assigning an IP Address to the Print Server
Before you Start
•
If you have a DHCP server on your network
, your print server will
receive an IP address automatically. The IP address will then appear on
the test page you printed earlier.
•
If you are not working in a DHCP network
, you need to set the IP
address of the print server manually.
System Privileges
You need root privileges on your Mac OS X system, or administrator
privileges on a Windows NT server to:
•
set the IP address using RARP, DHCP
•
add an entry to the ARP table with the command 'arp -s'
Ethernet Address
You need to know the Ethernet address of your AXIS OfficeBasic USB in
order to assign an IP address to it. The Ethernet address is based upon the
serial number of your
print server
. This means, for example, that an AXIS
OfficeBasic USB with the serial number of 00408C100086, will have the
corresponding Ethernet address of 00 40 8C 10 00 86. The serial number
is located on the backside label of the print server.
IP Address
Unless you are assigning an IP address using DHCP or AutoIP, you must
obtain an unused IP address from your network administrator.
Important:
DO NOT use the IP addresses used in the following examples when installing
your AXIS OfficeBasic USB. Consult your network administrator before
assigning an IP address to your print server.
