BOXTEL MKII CONNECTION PROCEDURE
| BOXTEL MKII CONNECTION PROCEDURE
30
An ATA typically has at least one port to connect a telephone (normally a RJ11) and an Ethernet network port (normally
a RJ45) to connect it to a LAN connected to the Internet.
More complex models can have multiple telephone ports also
for ISDN phones or PBX and an additional Ethernet port to connect other network objects.
The device is programmed with a dedicated number, which adds a second phone line to the home line.
The two
numbers, the one of the telephone and the one of the ATA, share the same line. When there is an incoming call the ATA
rings even if the call is to the traditional telephone line. When a number is dialled, according to the prefix, the call is
routed via the standard telephone line or via the Internet.
12.9 CONNECTION TO A DIGITAL OR VOIP -2 LINE
If it is necessary to connect a digital line to a telephone hybrid, you must add an ATA (Analog telephone adapter)
between the digital line and the PSTN analog line. Each manufacturer usually has its one, but generic ones are available
on the market. Contact your telephone provider to install it. The example under shows a ONE LINE ADAPTER.
