This chapter describes how a MAGIC ISDN unit is put into operation. The fol-
lowing plug-in unit equipping is used as an example:
– Slot 1: Interface Unit
– Slot 2: Audiocodec Layer II/III digital
– Slot 3: Audio Layer II/III analog I (optional)
3.1 Construction of the MAGIC Audio Codec

MAGIC system can either be operated as a table-top device or be inserted into
19" or ETSI racks using mounting brackets.
The dimensions given above are valid for the table-top version with neither
mounting brackets nor feet. If the MAGIC system is to be inserted into a rack,
it should be remembered that the bending radius of the cables should always
be greater than the minimum allowed value.
If the MAGIC system is installed in a rack, it should also be ensured that suf-
ficient ventilation is provided. It is recommended that at least 3 cm space is
left. As a rule, the ambient temperature should not lie outside the range +5
°
C
to +40
°
C. These limits are of particular importance if the MAGIC system is in-
serted in a rack.
During operation, the relative humidity must lie between 5% and 85%. Opera-
tion of the MAGIC system outside the above-mentioned limits is not allowed
and invalidates the warranty (guarantee).
