Use this section to help understand and use each interface module. The Ethernet Routing Switch 8300

modules provide a full complement of switching capabilities.

For the minimum Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 software versions required to support the hardware

described in this document, see

.

 Caution:

Do not install Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 modules and Ethernet Routing Switch 8100 or 8800/8600

modules within the same chassis. Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 Series software does not support

mixed configurations. A mixed configuration can damage the modules and void your warranty.

The Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 has two hardware operating modes:

• non-V mode
• V mode

Non-V mode configuration requirements

The non-V mode requires the 8393 SF/CPU module.
