8394 SF/CPU Ethernet management port
The Ethernet management port on the 8394 SF/CPU module is an MDI 10BASE-T/100BASE-
TX port for managing the out-of-band switch by using the Device Manager. You can establish
a Telnet session or use the
rlogin
command to access the CLI. Use this port to connect the
switch to a network management station. The Ethernet management port has a unique IP
address but does not switch traffic to other ports in the chassis.
This port provides out-of-band management for the 8394 SF/CPU module, and you can use it
only as a management port.
8394 SF/CPU Serial port
The 8394 SF/CPU module provides a serial port for attaching console devices. The Console
port provides terminal access to the 8394 SF/CPU module to use the CLI or ACLI. For
information about pin assignments for this port, see
on page 77.
8394 SF/CPU Reset button
With the recessed Reset button on the 8394 SF/CPU module, you can perform a hard reset
or reboot of the system. To press the Reset button, insert a small pointed object (for example,
a paper clip) into the Reset button hole.
8394 SF/CPU PCMCIA card slot
The PCMCIA card slot in the 8394 SF/CPU module is compatible with the PCMCIA cards listed
in
Table 11: Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 PCMCIA cards
on page 47. These ATA flash
memory cards provide a convenient way to store switch configurations and boot images. Use
a memory card to quickly transfer configurations and images between switches or to store
multiple configurations for a single switch.
8394 SF/CPU event logging
The 8394 SF/CPU module provides event logging capability to internal RAM and the removable
PCMCIA memory card, but not to internal flash memory. To save log information for a switch
power cycle, you must use the PCMCIA flash memory card.
