4. Check the Feed Chain Tension
. Feed chains
stretch as they wear. At the middle of the hopper,
lift one chain off the deck until the is no slack. There
should be 4–6 in. (10–15 cm) of slack. Check each
chain.
5. Check the Tail Deck Plate
. Make sure the adjust-
able gap at the feed tail pulley is 3/8–3/4 in. (1–2
cm), as shown in Figure 109. Also, check the tight-
ness of the five bolts that secure the tail deck plate.

OTE
:
The tail deck plate gap changes when the chain
tension is adjusted.

6. Check the Upper Chain Deck
Check for warping and overall condition.

7. Check the Compression Roll Seals (Debris Cov-
ers)
(Figure 111). Check bolt tightness.

8. Check the Feed Plate
(also called T-bar or feed
grate retainer). Make sure that the adjustable gap
between the feed plate and the chain sprocket
(Figure 112) is about 3/8 inch (1 cm).
