13  Glossary of Software Functions 

13.1.1

 

File Menu 

 

Exit: Closes program. 

 

13.1.2

 

CommPort Menu 

 

Use COM1: Selects the COM1 serial port for communication to the Level Shifter and 
ELT. 

 

Use COM2: Selects the COM2 serial port for communication to the Level Shifter and 
ELT. 

 

9600 Baud: Selects a 9600 baud rate for communication to the Level Shifter and ELT.  
See the ELT Programming section of this manual for details. 

 

2400 Baud: Selects a 2400 baud rate for communication to the Level Shifter and ELT.  
See the ELT Programming section of this manual for details.

PrinterPort Menu 

 

Use Windows Printer: This option allows the user to select a Windows controlled printer 
for printing.  A Windows printer driver must control the printer.  It may be a local or 
network printer.  After selecting this option, a new window will allow selection of the 
desired Windows printer from the choices offered.  After selecting “OK”, a new window 
will allow selection of a default font from the choices available for that printer.  This 
printing setup does not allow printing from the BCNCodes software. 

 

Use LPT1: This option will print raw, unformatted text directly to the LPT1 printer port.  
The attached printer should select its default font to print the text.  The advantage of this 
printing setup is that the BCNCodes printing shortcuts are able to print to direct printer 
port connections.  This will support features like “Print BCN” in the “Read ELT” 
window after hitting the “Read ELT” button. 

 

Use LPT2: This option will print raw, unformatted text directly to the LPT2 printer port.  
The attached printer should select its default font to print the text.  The advantage of this 
printing setup is that the BCNCodes printing shortcuts are able to print to direct printer 
port connections.  This will support features like “Print BCN” in the “Read ELT” 
window after hitting the “Read ELT” button. 

 

Use FormFeeds: This option will insert a form feed after print jobs that are sent directly 
to LPT1 or LPT2.

Preferences Menu 

 

Use Beeps to Flag Invalid Entry: This option is for software development purposes only.  
It should be selected with a check mark. 

 

Enable View Window: This option is for software development purposes only.  It should 
be selected with a check mark. 

 

Extend ELT Response Time: This option is disabled.  It is for software development 
purposes only.  

 

Edit Protocol List: This option should only be used at the specific instruction of Artex 
Aircraft Supplies.  This option is password protected.
