3.2.6 A16 Dual Detector Assembly (Schematic 10045651)
The Dual Detector monitors the outputs from the A15 dual directional coupler. The dual detector provides
sample outputs of the forward and reverse powers and also DC outputs proportional to the forward and reverse
powers of the amplifier.
There are two identical channels in the dual detector; only the one J1 input is described. The input from J1 is
connected to a two-way splitter. The two-way splitter outputs go to a 6 dB attenuator (U3) and the RF input of
the power detector (U2). The power detector provides a DC output which provides a signal to display output
power and for amplifier protection. The output of attenuator (U3) is fed to a stage of gain (U4) which is
connected to a 3 dB attenuator (U5). The output from U5 provides an RF sample output which can be used to
monitor the amplifier output power. The gain from J1 to J2 is approximately 1.0 to 1.5 dB of gain.
3.3 POWER SUPPLIES (PS1, PS2 AND PS3).
PS1 is a multiple output supply. The main +24V at 7.5A supplies voltage to cooling fans B1 through B5. The -
15V at 1A is supplied to the A1 Pre-Amp, A2 Driver as well as Final modules A6 through A13. The +15V at
5A is supplied to the A16 Detector. The +5V at 2A is supplied to the Control Panel Assembly A18, the Interface
Board A20 and the ALC Board A17.
PS2 is a +24V, 67A switching supply that su24 volts to Final Modules A10-A13.
PS3 is a +24V, 67A switching supply that su24 volts to Final Modules A6-A9.
3.4 CONTROL SYSTEM
3.4.1 A18, A19 Display Assembly, 4.3”, LCD (Schematics 10045618,
10030013)
The A18/A19 Display Assembly board consists of two 16-bit microcontrollers and about nine other ICs that
monitor and indicate the status of the amplifier. Power is supplied using only a single 5-volt power supply.
