WARNING
Do not use gasoline or inflammable sol-
vents to wash the air cleaner, in order to
avoid fires or explosions.
Check the condition of the air cleaner and
clean it monthly or every 2,500 mi (4,000
km), depending on the conditions in which
the vehicle is used.
If the vehicle is used on dusty or wet roads,
the cleaning operations and any replace-
ment should be carried out more frequent-
ly.
To clean the filtering element it is neces-
sary to remove the whole filter casing from
the vehicle.
REMOVAL
◆
Remove the inspection cover, p. 72 (RE-
MOVING THE INSPECTION COVER).
◆
Unscrew and remove the screw (1), tak-
ing the washer and the breather pipe ring
(2).
◆
Unscrew and remove the screw (3) with
the relevant washer.
◆
Loosen the screw (4) of the air manifold
clamp.
◆
Grasp the air manifold complete with the
clamp, and pull it away, thus removing
the whole air cleaner casing.
CLEANING THE AIR FILTER

Unscrew the three screws (5).
◆
Remove the filter case cover (6) and ex-
tract the filter element (7).
◆
To clean the filter element (7), rinse it in
non-flammable solvent, then allow it to
dry thoroughly.
◆
Sparingly apply filter oil, or heavy engine
oil (SAE 80W-90), then squeeze the filter
to eliminate any excess oil.
NOTE
The filter must be completely wet
with oil, but not dripping.
