Air Cleaner Maintenance
A dirty air cleaner will restrict air flow to the carburetor, reducing engine performance. If you operate the engine in very
dusty areas, clean the air filter more often than specified in the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
Operating the engine without an air filter, or with a damaged air filter, will allow dirt to enter the engine, causing rapid engine
wear. This type of damage is not covered by the Distributor’s Limited Warranty.
Inspection
Remove the air cleaner cover and inspect the filter elements. Clean or replace dirty filter elements. Always replace damaged
filter elements.
Cleaning
1. Pull the air cleaner cover latch to the unlocked position, and remove the cover.
2. Remove the wing nut from the paper filter element.
3. Remove the paper filter element and foam filter element from the air cleaner case.
4. Remove the foam filter element from the paper filter element.
5. Inspect both filter elements, and replace them if they are damaged. Always replace the paper
filter element at the scheduled interval.
