Standard procedures to turn the laser OFF then ON

Safety rules

When disconnecting the optical fiber, follow the procedure stated below to avoid laser
radiation.

Procedure

Turn OFF the laser.

From EML-USM, select the board and click twice.

a. Select the port

b. Select the module

c. Select the SPI block

d. Select “port” -> “Physical media” -> “ALS Management”

e. Set ALS function. Laser Forced OFF and then click on Apply.

Check if the laser is OFF.

a. Check in the message area port view that the message “ALS current state in test” is

present.

Set the test bench.

a. Disconnect the optical jumper.

b. Connect the optical device (power meter or optical attenuator) to carry out the test.

Turn ON the laser.
