Initial Inspection
Insp ect the shipping con tainer for damage. If the shipping con tainer or cushioning material is
damaged, k eep it un til y ou ha v e v eried that the con ten ts are complete and y ou ha v e tested
the analyzer mec hanically and electrically .
If the shipmen t is incomplete or if the analyzer do es not pass the op erator's c hec k (see c hapter
3) notify the nearest Agilent oce. If the shipping con tainer is damaged or the cushioning
material sho ws signs of stress, notify the carrier. Keep the shipping materials for the carrier's
insp ection. The Agilent oce will arrange for repair or replacemen t without w aiting for a
claim settlement.
If the shipping con tainer and cushioning material are in go o d condition, retain them for
p ossible future use. Y ou may wish to ship the analyzer to another lo cation or to return it to
Agilent T ec hnologies for service. Instructions for repac k aging and shipping the instrumen t are
lo cated at the end of this c hapter.

A complete shipmen t consists of one b o x (see c hapter 1 for part n um b ers).

Serial Numbers
Agilent T ec hnologies makes frequen t improv emen ts to its pro ducts to enhance their
p erformance, usabilit y , or reliabilit y , and to con trol costs. Agilent service p ersonnel ha v e
access to records of design c hanges to eac h t yp e of equipmen t, based on the equipmen t's
serial n um b er. If y ou con tact Agilent ab out y our analyzer, ha v e the complete serial n um b er
a v ailable to make sure that y ou receiv e the most complete and accurate information p ossible.
A serial n um b er lab el is attac hed to the rear panel of the analyzer. A t ypical serial n um b er
lab el is sho wn in Figure 2-1 . The rst four digits follo w ed b y a letter comprise the serial
n um b er prex; the last v e digits are the sequen tial sux, unique to eac h instrumen t.
