The HP 8757D Analyzer
The HP 8757D ( Figure 1-2) is a micropro cessor-based receiv er capable of making scalar
(magnitude only) reection and transmission measuremen ts. The external detectors used
determine the frequency range. The raster display pro vides high resolution for viewing
measuremen ts.
Note
The original HP 8757D incorp orated a catho de ray tub e (CR T) based display .
The curren t design incorp orates a liquid crystal display (LCD) based display .
In this man ual, references to either CR T or LCD apply to b oth display designs
unless noted otherwise.
CRT/LCD A ttributes
The CR T/LCD displays attributes (suc h as the grid, measuremen t traces for eac h c hannel,
and lab els) in factory-dened colors. Y ou can adjust the h ue, saturation and in tensity of eac h
of these attributes.
Displays
The analyzer can simultaneously driv e b oth the in ternal display and one external monitor
(color or mono c hrome, if compatible with the analyzer's scan rate and video lev els).
P eripherals
Y ou can use the analyzer to con trol external prin ters, plotters, and sources through the system
in terface. A prin ter and plotter buer sp eeds measuremen ts b y returning con trol to the
analyzer while data prin ts.
Calibration Data and Instrument States
Y ou can store and recall instrumen t states and calibration data to and from external disks.
Measurement Channels
F our indep enden t but iden tical measuremen t c hannels allo w simultaneous measuremen ts and
viewing of measuremen t parameters. The detector inputs (A, B, C, and R) accept A C or DC
detected signals from detectors or bridges.
Local and Remote Operation
Y ou can op erate the analyzer either lo cally , using the fron t panel con trols and men u
selections, or remotely o v er the HP-IB. Y ou can also generate on-screen graphics (see \Remote
Op eration").
