8.2.2 - Temperature and pressure
Relief valve
This water heater is supplied with a Safety Temperature
and Pressure Relief valve which discharge connection
must be piped in accordance with the ANSI/ASME
Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IV, to prevent
scalding in the event of a discharge.
Pipe the discharge of the safety relief valve like on Figure
8-1. to a suitable drain to prevent injury in the event of
pressure relief. Pipe the discharge to a drain.
Provide piping that is the same size as the safety relief
valve outlet.
WARNING!!!
Failure to properly pipe the
relief valve discharge can result in scalding of
individuals and animals.
WARNING!!!
Never block the outlet of
the safety relief valve or an explosion causing
extensive property damage, severe personal
injury or death may occur!
WARNING!!!
Never install any type of valve
between the water heater and the relief valve
or an explosion causing extensive property
damage, severe personal injury or death may
occur!
NOTICE!
If the relief valve discharges periodically, this
may be due to thermal expansion in a closed water
supply system. Contact the water supplier or local
plumbing inspector on how to correct this situation. Do
not plug the relief valve.
