Advanced Telemetry Systems, Inc. R4500S Reference User Manual R05-11-A
68
Note: When using the GOES option and as long as the R4500S has not filled up it will not lose the data. It will
always try to catch up. In order to save transmission space, the day the data is collected is attached to the
transmission and not to the individual data point. If the back log becomes too large the date information will not
match the day the data was collected.
When using the RDP (Remote Data Platform) option the R4500S will always dump all the data recorded during the
previous hour’s logging.
Even after the R4500S has filled up it will continuing logging. The newest data will be written over the oldest data.
In order for data to actually be lost the data back log would have to be the entire capacity of the data logger which
is over 90,000 data blocks.
You can connect to the
PC/CLONE
from your PC using your offload cable. By using a communication software
such as Microsoft ® HyperTerminal or Symantec’s Procomm Plus and the serial settings “baud: 9600, no parity, 8
data bits, 1 stop bit” or “baud: 57600, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit” you can monitor the data that is sent out. This
data comes out in a compressed format that if using GOES is the same as that you will see when downloading your
data from NESDIS or if using the RDP is a compressed format that when uncompressed is the same as your
normal offloaded data.
18.1 Data Format and Translation
18.1.1 BINARY DATA
To maximize the amount of data you can send in a transmission, your data has been compressed into binary data.
The binary data is sent as ASCII text that is viewable in a text editor. The downloaded data will appear in the same
form that it was sent.
