This section provides detailed information on the following:
■ Turn-Up
■ Depending on the local service provider’s requirements the technician may be required to
perform additional tests beyond the installation of the GPON 452/454 on the Customer
Premises Equipment (CPE) wiring and/or equipment. If this is the case, a GPON power
meter may be used to test the upstream and downstream signal types for voice, data and
video.

6.1 Turn-up
Initial turn-up of the GPON 452/454 involves applying power and observing LEDs for status
information. To turn-up the GPON 452/454, complete the following steps:
1. Plug the green UPS connector into the male connector of the UPS.
2. Check to ensure the AC, output, and battery LEDs are green and functioning. The UPS is
now ready for normal operation.
3. View the LEDs on the GPON 452/454 as they cycle through start-up diagnostics. A
properly installed ONT cycles through a sequence of operations during startup and
on page 42 shows the normal LED status once the startup
and power-up sequences are complete (approximately 30 seconds).
4. In addition to the front panel LEDs, the GPON 452/454 has LEDs that are integral to the
Ethernet RJ-45 jack.
