Kohler Illumination: Aligning the condenser in the optical path
Centering the condenser
Set the condenser turret for
brightfield observation (“B”
position) and using the 10X
objective, focus on a specimen.
Close the field diaphragm
completely.
Using the condenser focusing
knobs, adjust the condenser
position up or down until the bright
area seen in the specimen is seen
sharply. Flat edges of the field
diaphragm should become visible.
Using the condenser centering
screws, center the bright area in
the field of view by screwing in or
out the centering screws.
Open the field diaphragm until the
bright area fills most of the field of
view.
Adjust condenser centration again
using the centering screws.
Open the field diaphragm until it is
outside the field of view.
