IMPORTANT NOTE:
External connectors (MMI, USB, Ethernet) are weather-proof only
when not connected. Use these ports only for local communication for setup and
maintenance purposes, never for permanent field connections.
DANGER
–
Serious damage to health / risk to life
. Do not use the MMI port, USB port
or connect any USB dongle to the USB port when an explosive atmosphere is present.

Remote serial communication
Ports configured for remote serial communication connect the XSeries
G5
device to a communication
network and allow remote access or management over that network.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Connections on serial ports require communication modules for the
correct serial interface type (RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485).
Devices with standard configuration ship with COMM1 already pre-configured for remote
communication. COMM2 can also be configured to support remote serial communications if
needed, provided that the correct module type is also installed. COMM2 is typically left as
spare to support serial connections with measurement equipment.
