4.5 Underpressure measurement on filter silencer
A U-tube manometer can be ordered from ABB Turbo Systems for meas-
uring the negative pressure at the filter silencer.
The measurement can be used for the following purposes:
¡
To measure the correction factor for calculating the turbocharger ef-
ficiency during the engine acceptance test.
¡
The use of a filter mat on the filter silencer can cause a loss of pres-
sure. A significant pressure loss indicates an increase in dirt build-up
in the filter material.

Pressure loss / Pressure difference
With a clean filter silencer (and clean filter mat, if provided), the max-
imum pressure loss (A) is
120 mm H

O at full load.
When the pressure loss (A) has reached 200 mm H

NOTICE
Reading off pressure loss
The measuring rod on the U-tube manometer can be withdrawn to the
bottom water level so that the pressure differential (A) can be easily
read off.
The U-tube manometer can be read off more easily if slightly coloured
water is poured in.
