The following table lists terms and abbreviations users should be familiar with when using this manual. Some of the
terms and abbreviations used in the manual are unique to ABB and might differ from the common use.
ZISC
Impedance Isolated Static Converter. ZISC refers to the architecture of the HiPerGuard MV
UPS where the static power converters of the MV UPS are isolated from the grid via an im-
pedance.
SOC
State of Charge. SOC refers to the state of charge of the energy storage connected to the
MV UPS.
EOA
End of Autonomy. EOA refers to the end of the specified back-up autonomy time of the en-
ergy storage.
EOD
End of Discharge. EOD refers to the state of energy storage when it is fully depleted.
Smbp
Maintenance Bypass Switch. Represents the designation of the external maintenance by-
pass circuit breaker that bypasses the MV UPS system and its automatic bypass switch-
gear and connect the grid directly to the load. This breaker is not controlled by the MV
UPS.
GDM
Graphical Display Module. Has the local Human Machine Interface (HMI) and it is located in
the PE120-1 enclosure.
PCU
Power Conversion Unit. The PCU consists of the LV enclosures of the HiPerGuard MV UPS
unit.
MVM
Medium Voltage Magnetics. The MVM consists of the coupling transformer and the isolat-
ing line reactor.
UPSU
Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit. Refers to a single HiPerGuard MV UPS machine.
UPSS
Uninterruptible Power Supply System. Refers to the HiPerGuard MV UPS unit (or multiple
units) in addition to the medium voltage switchgear and the energy storage.
PE-E
Protective Earth.
PE-I
Inverter Earth.
PCC
Point of Common Coupling. The PCC is the point in the electrical power supply system
where the responsibility of the utility changes to the industrial customer. The utility is re-
sponsible for providing clean voltage and current with respect to harmonic distortion up
to the PCC. The industrial customer is responsible not to distort voltage and current by its
electrical systems.
Line voltage
RMS line to line voltage of the main power supply of the MV UPS input.
PCB
Printed Circuit Board.
EMC
Electromagnetic Compatibility. All measures to suppress electromagnetic disturbances
caused by different electrical equipment in the same electromagnetic environment, and to
strengthen the immunity of the equipment to such disturbances.
RTD
Resistance Temperature Detector. The RTD is a temperature sensor where the change in
electrical resistance is used to measure the temperature.
