8. Maintenance
8.2.4. Lifesycle diagram of the vacuum chamber
The Figure 25 shows the life span of the vacuum
interrupter please note, that in some versions the
pole might not support as much current as the
vacuum chamber. Specifics on the pole are given
in the datasheet of the pole.
The Vertical axis represents the number of
operations and the horizontal axis the breaking
current. The nominal current of the Vacuum
interrupter VE1 is 2500A and the short circuit
current 25 kA
The table below shows some examples.

8.2.5. Check of manual opening device from
ground level
During the periodical inspection check the pin and
the safety rings of the manual tripping device
from ground level (see 3.1.6).
For apparatus manufactured before 2019, in case
of signs of corrosion, damage or loosening it is
recommended to replace this pin and the rings.
Please contact ABB for service kit and instructions
for this replacement.
8.2.6. Repair of Surface Defects
• Initiate repair work immediately after determining
a defect
• Carefully remove the formation of white rust on
aluminium/zinc surfaces with a wire brush or
scouring pad, e.g. Scotch-Brite and clean away
clinging loose particles with a dry, lint-free cloth.
Finally treat cleaned areas with zinc spray or zinc-
dust paint and then with an aluminium spray to
match the colour
• Carefully remove the formation of white rust on
chromated functional parts and the formation of
rust on phosphated parts with a wire brush or
wire-free scouring pad, e.g. Scotch-Brite and clean
with a dry cloth
8.2.7. Conclusion of the Work
Before closing the apparatus, it must be checked
that no loose parts (tools, cleaning agent, screws,
nuts) are left inside. After that, the cover panel
can be closed again using the screws.
