Term/Abbreviation
Description
c.i., Confidence Interval
Interval surrounded by the confidence limit
of 95%.
95% confidence interval is expressed in
numerical data with the cosinor analysis
graph.
PR (Percent Rhythm)
Rhythm compatibility
Squared multiple correlation coefficient (R)
between the measured value and the
cosine curve best fitted to the biological
rhythm data.
The closer to one a PR value is, the better
a regression line fits.
For example, when a PR value is greater
than 0.5, the cosinor analysis is considered
as valid.
Variation Index
Variation index of rhythm [%].
Numerical value obtained as described
below.
Difference between the maximum value
and minimum value of the cosine curve
best fitted to the biological rhythm data
divided by the maximum value.
When the maximum value is the blood
pressure obtained by day and the minimum
value is the blood pressure obtained at
night, the variation index can be useful to
judge clinical dipper and non-dipper
rhythms.
For example, the fall rate of the mean blood
pressure during sleep (at night) to the
mean blood pressure while awake (by day)
is indicated as below:
0% to 10%: non-dipper
10% to 20%: dipper
20% or over: extreme-dipper
