Certification Test

Test is to be given after material has been reviewed. Test is open note. Participant must answer at least 16 correctly for a passing grade.

1. Zurn PEX has UV protection for up to 6 months; however, it should always be stored under

cover and not exposed to direct sunlight.

2. Care should be taken not to scratch or crush Zurn PEX tubing

3. Be sure to protect tube with plastic sleeves when it enters and exits the slab.

4. It’s okay to use a pipe support or hanger with sharp edges on Zurn PEX tube.

5. Vertical runs should be supported every other floor.

6. The only type of leak detector that should be used is a diluted solution comprising of 2 oz.

per gallon using any of these dishwashing detergents: Ultra Palmolive Original Scent, Joy
Dishwashing Detergent, or Great Value(Wal-Mart) Dish Detergent.

7. Zurn PEX may be directly connected to an electric water heater.

8. Zurn PEX should not be pulled tight during installation to allow for expansion and

contraction of the tubing. In commercial applications, it may be necessary to have an
expansion arm or loop.

9. In a fire sprinkler application, I can use Zurn PEX tube and another manufacturer’s fitting.

10. Be sure to use #10-1-1/4” coarse threaded screws to mount fire sprinkler adaptors.

11. I can install Zurn PEX tube 1/2” - 2” in a plenum if wrapped with 1” thick

fiberglass insulation.

12. When making a Zurn PEX XL brass or CR polymer insert and crimp connection using a

copper ring or stainless steel clamp, the ring must be positioned 1/8” to 3/4” from the
shoulder of the fitting.

13. When using the Zurn Go/No-Go Gauge, always place the gauge opening on the copper

crimp ring at a 90° angle for an accurate check.

14. As long as the finished crimp gauges properly, there is no need to adjust the tool.

15. You can use the QickClamp tool on the stainless steel clamp and vice versa.

16. The ratchet and medium QickClamp tools can crimp 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1” QickClamps.

17. QickClamps may be used on XL ONLY.

18. Be sure that the tab on the inside of the QickClamp stays on the outside of the tubing.

19. The large diameter compact tool can make 1-1/4”, 1-1/2”, and 2” crimps.

20. Oil should be applied to all tool pivots during adjustment to extend the life of the tool.
