Temperature Recommendation:
It has been my experience that a temperature between 350 C and 400 C works
the best for solder removal. This can be adjusted up or down depending on the
size of the solder pads. Check to make certain that you have the ZD-985 set for
Celsius and not Fahrenheit as there is a considerable difference. Give the unit
adequate time to warm up so that the entire length of the internal stainless steel
vacuum tube is over the melting point of the solder or a clog may solidify in the
tube at the exit point into the solder collection bottle. The picture below shows
the beginning process of a clog forming.
Solder Clogs:
Solder Clogs are one undesirable side effect that you will have to deal with. A
solder clog will stop the flow of air and solder will not be pulled into the collection
bottle. You will note that this has happened as the vacuum pump in your unit will
run at higher RPM than normal.
