Johnson Controls Ducted Systems

The  furnace  must  be  isolated  from  the  gas  supply  piping  system  by
closing its individual external manual shutoff valve during any pressure
testing  of  the  gas  supply  piping  system  at  pressures  equal  to  or  less
than 0.5 psig (3.5 kPa).
Gas piping can be connected from either side of the furnace using any
of the gas pipe entry knockouts on both sides of the furnace. See Fig-
ures 6 and 10.

HIGH ALTITUDE

The TL9E060 furnace is constructed at the factory for natural gas-fired
operation  at  0  to  7,800  ft  (0  to  2,377  m)  above  sea  level.  No  adjust-
ments are needed.
The TL9E080  and TL9E100  are  constructed  at  the  factory  for  natural
gas-fired operation at 0 to 5,000 ft (0 to 1,524 m) with no adjustments
needed. Above 5,000 ft (1,524 m), change the unit ID plug. Use the
following high altitude accessory kits: S1-32552070000 for TL9E080,
S1-32552071000 for TL9E100.

SECTION V: ELECTRICAL POWER

ELECTRICAL POWER CONNECTIONS

Field wiring to the unit must be grounded. Electric wires that are field
installed must conform to the temperature limitation for 63°F (35°C) rise
wire specified in these instructions. See Table 4 in these instructions for
specific furnace electrical data.

Notes:

Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) numbers are determined in accordance with DOE test procedures.
Wire size and overcurrent protection must comply with the National Electrical Code (NFPA-70-latest edition) and all local codes.
The furnace must be installed so the electrical components are protected from water.

IMPORTANT:

An accessible manual shutoff valve must be installed

upstream of the furnace gas controls and within 6 ft (1.8 m) of the fur-
nace.

 CAUTION

The gas valve body is a very thin casting that cannot take any exter-
nal pressure. Never apply a pipe wrench to the body of the gas valve
when installing piping. A wrench must be placed on the octagon hub
located  on  the  gas  inlet  side  of  the  valve.  Placing  a  wrench  to  the
body of the gas valve will damage the valve causing improper opera-
tion and/or the valve to leak.

!

 CAUTION

Use copper conductors only.
