Configuration Backup/Restore
This section describes the backup and restoration procedure of configuring the Managed
Switches by using Auto-Configuration Adapter (ACA).
For restoring the Managed Switches to the default configuration, see “clear config
factory” command in section 4.3.4.
3.1
Configuration File Architecture
The current configuration of the Managed Switch is based on the “running-config” file in the
system RAM.
When the ACA is disconnected, the Managed Switch boots up with “startup-config” file in the non-
volatile RAM (NVRAM), and the “running-config” file is copied from the “startup- config”.
When the ACA with an applicable configuration file is connected, the Managed Switch boots up
with the “switch.cfg” file in the ACA from where the “running-config” and “startup-config” files are
copied.

Command Line Interface (CLI) can modify the “running-config” file in the system RAM.
To save the modification before rebooting, copy the “running-config” file to the “startup-config” file
in the NVRAM.
If this copy command is executed while the ACA is connected, the “running-config” file is
saved as “switch.cfg” in the ACA. (For copying the configuration file, see section “4.3.5 copy”
command.)
Since the ACA is identified as a USB storage device by connecting to a computer, the
configuration file in the ACA is named as “switch.cfg,” a binary format file.
