PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

6SY Operation Manual

PRECAUTIONS

The Importance of Periodic
Maintenance

Engine deterioration and wear occur in
proportion to the length of time the engine
has been in service and the conditions the
engine is subjected to during operation.
Periodic maintenance prevents
unexpected downtime, reduces the
number of accidents due to poor machine
performance and helps extend the life of
the engine.

CAUTION

If the fuel filter / water separator
is positioned higher than the fuel
level in the fuel tank, water may
not drip out when the fuel
filter / water separator drain cock
is opened. If this happens, turn
the air vent screw on the top of
the fuel filter / water separator
2-3 turns counterclockwise.

Be sure to tighten the air vent
screw after the water has drained
out.

0000025en

CAUTION

• When the engine is operated in

dusty conditions, clean the air
cleaner element more
frequently.

• NEVER operate the engine with

the air cleaner or element(s)
removed. This may allow
foreign material to enter the
engine and damage it.

0000026en

CAUTION

Clean or replace the air cleaner
element if the air intake
restriction exceeds the value
listed in the Operation and
Service Manuals.

0000046enMarine

CAUTION

NEVER turn off the battery
switch (if equipped) or short the
battery cables during operation.
Damage to the electric system
will result.
