The engine cannot be started if the bat-
tery voltage is less than 11.50 volts or
the battery is not installed.

1. Turn the key to “ON”.
2. Shift the transmission into the
neutral position. (See page 6-2.)
The neutral indicator light should
come on. If not, ask a Yamaha
dealer to check the electrical cir-
cuit.
3. Place the vehicle on the center-
stand.

4. Start the engine by pushing the
start switch or by pushing the
kickstarter lever down.
5. If the engine fails to start by push-
ing the start switch, try again with
the throttle grip open 1/4 turn (10
mm). Each starting attempt should
be as short as possible to pre-
serve the battery. Do not crank the
engine more than 5 seconds on
