E3 Pedal Adjustment
The E3 pedal unit is the same as used on the MKIII.
Adjusting the unit is also the same.
Pedal Adjustment
The difference between the system used on the E3
and that used on an ordinary acoustic piano is the
pedal rod on the pedal.
On an acoustic piano, the bottom of the pedal rod is
set on a rubber ring located on the back of the pedal
and the top is a double nut system with a hexagonal
cap nut.
The hexagonal cap nut located on the top is used to
adjust all changes in pedal conditions.
The Disklavier has a pedal drive unit and sensor
positioned midway in the pedal rod, and length
adjustment is done at two locations, one at the
double nut located on the underside of the drive
unit
(A) , and another with the hexagonal cap nut on
the topside (C) .
Changes in pedal conditions result from changes in
the upper and lower portions of the pedal rod.
In the lower section, the load crushes the felt
cushion on the rear of the pedal box lowering the
rear end of the pedal.
In the upper section, changes occur when the pedal
lever skin under the key bottom and the felt on the
pedal rod become compressed.
On an acoustic piano, these changes can be compensated for through adjustments
with the hexagonal cap nut.
On the Disklavier, adjusting the lower portion of the pedal rod (B) consists of
loosening the lower double nut (A) to lengthen the pedal rod then checking the
space (L
≒
15mm) underneath the pedal drive unit to check the adjustment results.
This maintains the stroke of the pedal drive unit and properly positions the pedal
sensor.
Adjusting the upper portion of the pedal rod is the same as on an acoustic piano
using the hexagonal cap nut.
