FRONT WHEEL

3. Inspect:

• Spoke(s)

Bent/Damaged

→

Replace.

Loose spoke(s)

→

Tighten.

Turn the wheel and hit the spokes gently
with a screwdriver.

NOTE:

A well tightened spoke makes a distinct, sharp
noise: a loose spoke makes a dull, muffled
noise.

4. Tighten:

• Loosespokes “1” (with a spoke wrench)

NOTE:

After tightening the spokes, check the centring
of the wheel.

5. Measure:

• Radial wheel runout “1”
• Lateral wheel runout “2”

Over the specified limits

→

Replace.

6. Check:

• Wheel bearings

Front wheel turns roughly or is loose

→

Re-

place the wheel bearings.

• Oil seals

Damage/wear

→

Replace.

ASSEMBLING THE FRONT WHEEL

1. Install:

• Wheel bearings
• Oil seals

a. Install the new wheel bearings and oil seals

in the reverse order of disassembly.

CAUTION:

Do not contact the wheel bearing inner race
“1” or balls “2”. Contact should be made
only with the outer race “3”.

NOTE:

Use a socket “4” that matches the diameter of
the wheel bearing outer race and oil seal.

New

3 Nm (0.3 m·kg, 2.1 ft·lb)

Radial wheel runout limit

1.2 mm (0.047 in)

Lateral wheel runout limit

0.8 mm (0.031 in)
