Searchlights: Horizontal drive motor replacement instructions

Lubricate with Dow Corning #4
compound.
Check cleanliness and smoothness of
bearing area. Clean up with #4 abrasive
if needed.

DISASSEMBLE
1.
With a short phillips screwdriver remove the four (4) screws
holding the upper housing to the lower housing.
2.
Lift the upper housing off the lower housing.
CAUTION:
Take care that the glass lens does not come with the
upper housing, fall and break.
3.
On the bottom motor carefully heat the solder joint enough to
release the yellow and blue wires.
NOTE: The position of the wires.
4.
Loosen the two (2) large 5/8-18 nuts and slide them up the
wires out of the way.
5.
Lift the whole lower housing assembly up off the base shaft
enough to lay it back to allow access to the three (3) screws
that fasten the motor the to the housing.
6.
Remove the three (3) screws and take out the motor.
7.
Lift the bearing plate, lower bearing, friction plate assembly
up the shaft to expose the area of the shaft under the friction
fitting, and lower bearing. Check the cleanliness and smooth-
ness of this area. Clean up with #400 abrasive if needed.
REASSEMBLE
1.
Lubricate the areas on the shaft noted on the exploded view.
2.
Lower the bearing assembly on the shaft to it’s original
position.
3.
Mount the new motor into the housing using the three (3) new
screws provided and the original star washers.
4.
Carefully slip the lower housing assembly over the base shaft
and let it settle into position.
CAUTION:
Take care to align the ribs in the lower housing with
the notches in the bearing plate.
5.
Thread the first large nut onto the base shaft lightly finger
tight.
6.
Thread the second large nut onto the shaftt and down to the
first nut.
7.
Holding the first nut firmly, tighten the second nut securely,
locking onto the first nut.
8.
Solder the wires to the motor. The yellow wire should be on the
terminal towards the front of the light. The blue wire will be
towards the rear.
9.
Turn on the light to make sure that the direction of rotation is
correct, if not, reverse the wires on the motor.
10.
Replace the upper housing onto the lower housing making
sure that the housing gasket is up against the lens gasket.
11.
Re-install the four (4) housing screws securely.
