Preliminary System Checks
Perform the following preliminary system checks before commissioning.
a. Normalize the airflow. Refer to chapter 9.1 on page 23.
b. Basic pass/fail smoke test. Refer to chapter 9.2 on page 23.
9.1
Normalize the Air Flow and Clearing Air Flow Troubles
The normalization process is initiated using the VSC PC configuration tool connected as described in chapter
8.2 on page 21.
Note:
Connection of the configuration PC will cause a “no answer trouble” to be reported by the Panel and
LEDs to flash.
a. It takes approximately 11 minutes for the VLC-605 to normalize. Use VSC to verify normalization has
completed (Fault 77, “Normalization in progress” will be shown in the Active Event List during
normalization)
b. Consult the Active Event List of the VSC program to determine if trouble conditions exist and consult your
system design guide to rectify.
c. If the unit fails to normalize it may be because the measured airflow is too low. Check for blockages in the
sampling air pipe and check that the exhaust plug has been removed.
d. Once completed successfully, disconnect VSC from the VLC-605 and check proper communication
exists between VLC-605 and Panel.
9.2
Basic Pass/Fail Smoke Test
Note:
This test verifies the detector will sense smoke. It does not replace any appropriate commissioning
test.
a. Ensure that the PC with VSC is disconnected then inject smoke into the air sampling hole.
b. Wait for the red LED on the front panel to light up. The AutoPulse panel shall indicate Stage (1, 2 or 3)
alarm depending on amount of smoke injected into detector.
c. If the LED does not latch on, verify that the AutoPulse control panel unit does not contain an active “No
Answer Trouble” condition for the VLC-605 device being tested. If the “No Answer Trouble” is active –
verify that the IDNet SLC and input power (24 VDC) to the VLC-605 are connected correctly and are
active at the VLC-605 terminal block.
d. Reset the detector when the smoke test passes.
Note:
The VLC-605 must be connected to the AutoPulse Fire Control Panel before commencing the
Basic Pass/Fail Smoke Test as the detector reports smoke levels to the Fire Panel, and the Fire
Panel signals the detector to activate the LED.
