8.3 AutoPulse Control Panel Configuration Requirements
This section assumes that the VLC-605 device has been configured successfully as described in section 8.1
above. The AutoPulse control panel will need to include the necessary information for the VLC-605.
The AutoPulse configuration tool “AutoPulse Programmer Unit Software” (version 8.01 or later) is used to
configure the AutoPulse panel.
The necessary procedure is as follows:
a. Create a 4-20 mA ZAM in the configuration.
b. Set device address in configuration to match the DIP-switch setting made in section 6.13.
c. Set device stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3 thresholds as required for specific installation. Refer to chapter
8.4 for threshold requirements.
8.4 VLC-605 Threshold Configuration Requirements
The VLC-605 device Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 thresholds are set in terms of counts (1-255) as required by
4-20 mA ZAM devices.
The 4-20 mA range has a resolution of 255 steps. This range provides for step one being the highest
sensitivity (0.016%/ft / 0.0524 %/m) and step 255 being the lowest sensitivity (4.08 %/ ft / 13.39 %/ m). Each
of the 255 steps increment by 0.016 %/ft or 0.0524 %/ m obscuration.
The following formula can be used to determine the necessary count (number 1-255) for the desired %/ ft
obscuration for each threshold.
Count = Sp / Res
Where “Count” is the device count (1 – 255), “Sp” is the desired set point (%/ft or %/m) and “Res” is the device
resolution (0.016 %/ ft or 0.0524 %/m).
Example 1: (%/ft Thresholds)
A threshold of 0.3 %/ ft is required for the Stage 2 Threshold. The formula above will be used to determine the
necessary count setting.
Count = 0.3 / 0.016 = 18.75 so the count will be rounded to 19.
The Count value for the ZAM Stage 2 threshold will be set to 19 in the AutoPulse panel configuration.
Example 2: (%/m Thresholds)
A threshold of 2.0 %/m is required for the Stage 3 Threshold. The formula above will be used to determine the
necessary count setting.
Count = 2.0 / 0.0524 = 38.1, the count will be rounded to 38.
The Count value for the ZAM Stage 3 Threshold will be set to 38 in the AutoPulse panel configuration.
