Glossary
polarity
The direction of flow of an electrical
current (positive or negative).
port
A communications connection from a
computer to the printer, suitable for
attaching a single line.
portrait
Portrait refers to printing across the
width of a page (letter style). This
is the opposite of landscape
orientation, which is printing across
the length of the page. The term
portrait is derived from portraits of
people, which are usually vertical in
format. See “orientation” for an
illustration.
To produce a paper document using data
received from a host.
print density
Print density refers to the relative
darkness of print on the page. Very
dense print appears totally black.
Less dense print looks lighter, and
solid filled areas may not be totally
black. You can adjust print density
in the printer.
printer commands
Printer commands are sent to the
printer through application software
programs and are used to change
printing variables such as page
