General

IMPORTANT: Do not process toward the cab.

1. Once the tree has been delimbed, it is ready to be

cross-cut into desired products.

2. Depending on log size when cross-cutting, it will be

necessary to support the large end.

3. If multiple log grades are being processed,

pre-planning is important, as this will ensure correct
placement of various grades in order to facilitate the
recovery process.

4. When working on confined landings, ensure safety

procedures and practices are in place and adhered to.

Debarking

1. The process is similar to that above, with the major

difference being the predominant use of debarking
feeding wheels to cut and loosen the bark from stems.

2. The tree is fed back and forth through the harvester

head until the bark is removed. The tree is then
processed.

Measuring

1. Inspect the butt of the tree and re-cut as required.

2. Look at the measuring wheel while processing. If you

see the measuring wheel slipping while processing,
restart the tree from the beginning, resetting measuring
at the butt.

3. Keep the measuring wheel in view when selecting a

log length. Any sudden movements of the harvester
head may cause the wheel to stop or spin.

4. A support log may be required for longer logs to

prevent breakage: the log being measured should
slide smoothly along the log underneath. If not, try
another stack of logs.

5. Avoid reversing when measuring. Returning to the end

of a log and starting again will provide more accurate
length measuring.

6. Before activating the saw, check the diameter and

length readouts.

7. If measuring equipment is being used, carry out

calibration checks at regular intervals.

8. When handling two stems, align their butts either by

a saw cut or using the find end before measuring to
length.
