Waldorf
sive data. This data type is most commonly used to transfer complete sound memory
sets or to fully control a device from a computer.
Trigger
A trigger starts an event. Trigger signals can vary from each other. Both a MIDI note and
an audio signal can e.g. be used as a trigger. The started event can also vary. A com-
mon use for a trigger is to start an Envelope.
VCA
VCA is an abbreviation for Voltage Controlled Amplifier. A VCA is a element, that uses
a control voltage to control the level of a sound. Often, the control signal is an Envelo-
pe or an LFO.
VCF
VCF is an abbreviation for Voltage Controlled filter. This is a special filter design, where
the filter parameters can be influenced by a control voltage.
Volume
The level of a sound at the output.
Wave
Here: A Wave is a digitally memorized reproduction of one single wave pass. Insofar it
is identical with a Sample that is looped after one single wave pass. In contrast to the
samples in a sampler, all Waves in the Waldorf Wavetable Synthesizers have the same
lengths and are played back in the same pitch.
Wavetable/ Wavetable Synthesis
The sound creation in the PPG Wave 2.V bases on waveform sets, called Wavetables.
You should think of these as a sequence of up to 64 single Waves. This can be played
back in a static way or passed through dynamically, which results in the PPG-typical
interesting sound transformations. If the Waves do not differ much, then the Wavetable
will probably sound smooth and pleasant. If they have a completely different structure,
this will result in wild spectral changes.
