TailGUARD™ for refuse collection vehicles
4.1
General functional principles
To avoid any accidents, observe the following safety instructions for
vehicles with braking intervention through TailGUARD:
Vehicles with a prepared interface for TailGUARD:
TailGUARD may not
brake if the vehicle’s EBS system has a fault.
The general functional principles of the system correspond to those of TailGUARD™ for Truck & Bus:
TailGUARD™ is activated when reverse gear is engaged.
The area behind the vehicle is then monitored (depending on the application) by between two and six ultrasonic
sensors. The maximum number of ultrasonic sensors that can be installed primarily depends on the respective
lifting and tipping devices fitted to the refuse collection vehicle.
The sensor signals are transmitted over a separate LIN bus to the Electronic Extension Module, which is an integral
part of the system, and then processed there.
With regard to the remaining scope of the system, there are three variants:
•
First variant:
If the system is only to be used as a visual display to alert the driver when an object is detected
in the area behind the vehicle, any such objects within the detection area of the sensors are indicated by LEDs
arranged in bars on the Trailer Remote Control display and input unit:
