Care and Maintenance of
your VTL IT-85
Break in Period
Your VTL IT-85 integrated amplifier is designed to give you continuous optimum
performance over a long time period. Initially the tubes and circuits will require a
burn-in period to reach maximum sonic performance. During the first 100 hours of
usage the IT-85 will undergo an improvement in sound. To break in the IT-85 you
should simply use it with a music source connected to it and playing as you would in
normal use. This is all that is needed to achieve burn in.
Tube types
The VTL IT-85 Integrated amplifier uses a total of 4 EL34 tubes for the output stage,
4 12AT7 tubes (2 per channel) for the input and driver stages in the amplifier section
and 2 12AU7 tubes (1 per channel) in the preamplifier stage.
Caution: We recommend that your VTL component be fitted only
with the tubes that are supplied by the factory (see the warranty
section for further details). Any damage caused by the fitting of
any other tubes will not be covered by the warranty.
Tube Life
Your VTL IT-85 Integrated Amplifier has been designed to ensure long tube life.
Tube replacement need not be considered until after approximately 3000 hours of use
(roughly 3 to 4 years, depending on your listening habits.) As the tubes age beyond
their peak performance there will be a general softening of the sound.
We recommend a complete replacement of all tubes in your IT-85 at that time, which
will restore it to a “like new” sound quality. Your VTL dealer or VTL factory service
department will be happy to assist you with the re-tubing process.
